Dunnington Garden Tree Scheme

November 2023

Members of Dunnington Green Initiatives Group and & Treemendous York braved the weekend’s weather to provide residents with 62 attractive, wildlife-friendly trees. The majority opted to beautify their gardens with our blossoming species (crab apple, rowan, hawthorn and wild cherry) but some found space for silver birch, a biodiversity champion.

Our collection, delivery and planting services were well received, and we were very grateful for recipients’ generous donations – we’re hoping to put the small fund towards more trees in a public patch.

‘Big tens’ to Phil Etherington for giving us a very affordable price for the trees from his nursery in Wilberfoss, to the Parish Council for their support and to everyone who helped to promote the scheme.

Finally, a huge thank you to those residents who took us up on the offer, stepped up for the environment and made a positive contribution towards making our village even more beautiful.

We hope you enjoy your trees for many years.

What a way to celebrate National Tree Week! The tree planting season continues through the winter so there’s still time if you want to get a tree on the map for the Queen’s Green Canopy or if you want to join in with Countryfile’s Plant Britain.
