Knapton cubs hedgerow planting

November 2022

Treemendous tree planting got underway harnessing the energy of youth!

The local Cub’s leader, Gareth, made contact with Treemendous York to arrange a tree planting event for Marston Moor Scout & Cubs group. This took place on a warm sunny afternoon in Knapton/Acomb on Saturday 12th November 2022.

18 Cubs and 5 adults came from Rufforth on bikes with another 6 Cubs and 3 parents coming by car bringing spades and trowels. The cyclists were able to use the adjacent York-Acomb to Rufforth Trail cycleway

Treemendous members were on hand to help organise the children.

Planting was inside the recreation playground fence using 200 native mix species rich hedgerow trees, small whips in soil plugs with cane and spiral shelter rabbit protection. This will create a green wildlife corridor

Gareth said that starting the Cub Badge helped the children understand recycling, energy use and water management. The hedge planting went well and was soon complete leaving time for a talk on environmental issues.

And a play on the swings before they travelling home!
